Napocor expects P30M in revenue from industrial customers
Monday, January 17, 2005

Five major local companies that inked power supply contracts with state-run National Power Corp. (Napocor) last year are expected to infuse into the debt-saddled firm some P30 million a month in additional revenues.

These contracts indicate "continued confidence of the industrial sector in Napocor's ability to provide reliable and affordable electricity supply," Napocor said in a statement.

Among the new industrial customers are Beverage Packaging Specialists, Inc., a subsidiary of food-and-beverage giant San Miguel Corp., and the Bataan Economic Zone in Mariveles, one of the industrial estates under the wing of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority.

Bataan Ecozone started drawing power from Napocor on Aug. 13 while the contract with Beverage Packaging Specialists took effect on Oct. 25. Other new customers are Specialty Pulp Manufacturing, Inc. in Baybay, Leyte; ECSCO, Inc. in Bauan, Batangas; and Dynasty Management Development Corp. in Bacolod City.

The firms are seen to bring in additional revenues based on estimated energy sales of close to eight million kilowatt-hours per month.

For 2005, the state-owned firm said it is eyeing to energize at least seven additional industrial customers, including INGASCO, Inc. in San Jose, Batangas; the Philippine National Oil Co.-Energy Development Corp. facility within the Bacon-Manito Power Plant Complex in Sorsogon;
Grand Steel, Inc. in Cebu City; Elegant Steelworks International, Inc. in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental; and Manila Southcoast Development Corporation in Nasugbu, Batangas.
