$ 1.2-B transmission uprating completed

The $ 1.2-billion San Roque multi-purpose hydropower project is now ready for a maximized dispatch with the recent completion and switch-on of the uprated 230-kilovolt (kV) San Roque-San Manuel transmission line project.
Once the power plant’s run is maximized which would be beyond its nominated capacity of 85 megawatts, it was estimated that this could be offered at a cheaper cost of P1.50 per kilowatt hour (kWh). The San Roque plant’s rated capacity is placed at 345 MW.
"The project’s completion gives the power situation in Luzon a significant boost because it increases the power transfer capacity of the line," emphasized TransCo president and chief executive officer Alan T. Ortiz.
The line stretches 10 kilometers from the hydropower complex to the substation in San Manuel. At least 25 steel towers were used and two-bundle circuit conductors equipped with advanced protection and communication systems, serving as replacement for the temporary lines supported by wood poles.
The transmission firm explained that the steel towers are designed to withstand the strike of destructive typhoons, such as those with wind velocity of up to 275 kilometers per hour to avoid trippings or system disturbances, especially this rainy season. (MMV)
